On Sunday, September 17, 2023, the LAOH Division 23 honored and remembered the women who lost their lives at the Allegheny Arsenal explosion. They honored them with a Prayer and Wreath Laying Service. This year marks the 161^st anniversary of the Allegheny Arsenal explosion.

The arsenal, situated in the community of Lawrenceville, served as a supply and manufacturing center for the troops in the western US and employed many young Irish immigrant women and girls during the Civil War. 

LAOH Division #23 remembered and honored them with a brief ceremony at Arsenal Park. There were a few speakers from the Historical Society and City of Pittsburgh.  Fr. Brendan Dawson, Pastor of St Jude Parish, offered a blessing.
