Monthly Membership Meeting – Minutes

Opening Prayers/Special Intentions:

Please keep Judy Boyle in your prayers as she is facing a troubling illness in her life. Andrew Turak is undergoing a new treatment plan that we all hope will be life changing for this young man. Rosemary’s nephew has suffered from an illness and the prognosis is that his hearing will be lost. Please keep these and all our sisters and their families in your prayers. Also, as the summer season approaches, please keep young children safe near swimming pools, on bicycles and in all the day to day activities we took for granted in our neighborhoods growing up.

Motion for Last Month’s Meeting Minutes:

The minutes were emailed to the membership for April’s meeting. A motion was made by Loie to enter the minutes without reading, the motion was seconded by Adrienne.

Kathleen Diulus – iIrish Article “Happy Mother’s Day Pittsburgh” (see Attached)
Carmella Law – Finalize Allegheny Arsenal Memorial for September 17, 2023 – A committee was formed and will meet within the next few weeks to review the best steps to memorialize the women who lost their lives during the Allegheny Arsenal Explosion. Sue, Nan, and Nancy have volunteered to be on the committee.

Junior Update:

The Juniors are revamping their web site and it should be completed soon. There will be a Google form where new applicants can sign up. A link will be provided when complete.


Events:

Mother’s Day Flower Sale Pick Up – Saturday, May 13, 2023, 9:00am – 1:00pm, please remember to pick up the flowers you preordered from the flower sale. You cannot pick them up early because delivery is early Saturday morning. If there are any monetary discrepancies, Nan will be reimbursed.


School Supplies For Kids: From Pat O’Brien PA Past State President: On Saturday, May 20, hundreds of volunteers will pack school supplies that will be used in the 2023-2024 school year by 2,500 students from under resourced communities in our city. PLF is honored to partner for this event with The Education Partnership, an amazing organization which serves teachers and students in eight counties in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. Would you and your family or friends like to join in? Saturday, May 20, 2023- 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM; The Education Partnership, 281 Corliss Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Our Juniors are participating.

VFW – Bingo – Saturday, May 20, 2023, VFW $35 Donation covers lunch and 3 cards / 15 bingo games. Lunch at noon, bingo starts at 1:00pm. 318 52nd Street.


Cash Bash – Saturday, May 20, 2023, AOH Social Club. $20 Donation. Doors open at 6:30pm Drawings start at 7:30pm. This is going to be a great evening of fun and merriment for all. The AOH Club will be Smoke Free Upstairs. We will have a speaker system upstairs for the number calling and a board to mark off the numbers called. We are asking that members bring a chip/dip, appetizer, dessert to share. A full list of winners will be published soon! We had a fun night, I’m sure this will be on our list of fundraisers in the future!!


Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 29, 2023. We will march as a Division, forming at 36 th and Smallman Streets. Germaine and I will be there. If you think you may march, please reply to this email. We will be wearing our green summer shirts. Sorry for the late notice, hope to see you there.


Gaelic Arts Society – Sunday, June 4, 2023, Irish High Tea, Guest Speaker Marigrace Murphy, 2023 Miss Smiling Irish Eyes. $40.00 per person. A selection of aromatic teas scones, tea sandwiches, fruit and elegant cakes. Form Attached.


LAOH County Convention – Saturday. June 24, 2023, doors open at 10:30am, meeting begins at 11:00am. Location: AOH Division 17 Club, 2800 Broadway Boulevard, Monroeville, PA 15146, 412-829-2399.

LAOH State Convention Program Book AD – Cost of the AD for Kathleen is $150; the men have agreed to pay half. It is almost complete, and we will see a version soon.


LAOH State Convention Celebratory Party – Friday or Saturday, July 21-22, 2023 – Plans need to be put in place. A Chairperson and Venue need to be determined; we will contact Maria Gallagher for more guidance.


LAOH Claddagh Degree Exemplification – Saturday, July 22, 2023, Registration 11:00am, Exemplification begins at noon. Candidates $25.00; Observers $10.00. Forms are on the Convention website and some copies are at the meeting and will be attached with the meeting minutes.


AOH/LAOH State Convention – Thursday – Saturday July 20- 22, 2023. The convention website is now ready to be announced to the memberships. The link website link is: 2023 PA AOH LAOH State Convention (2023johnstownconvention.com) The convention Facebook page link is: 

2023 Pennsylvania AOH & LAOH State Convention | Johnstown PA | Facebook Johnstown is a short trip from Pittsburgh and many new members may want to receive their degree at this convention.


Duck of the Irish – Saturday, July 29, 2023, AOH Club, Gina Byrnes -Chairperson


AOH Division 4 Day of Irish Entertainment – Saturday, July 29, 2023, Schuetzen Park, Ross Township, tickets $25, $30 at the gate; price includes entertainment and beverages, gates open at 1:00pm. We decided to buy 2 tickets. Loie made the motion and Katie seconded.


Our Lady of Knock Mass – Sunday, August 13, 2023, 11:00 AM Mass at SS. Simon & Jude Church, 1607 Greentree Road, Scott Twp. Ladies with twenty years of membership will be honored with a Golden Rose.


Allegheny Arsenal Explosion Memorial – September 17, 2023. 2:00pm ceremony at Allegheny Cemetery and light refreshments at AOH Social Club following the cemetery ceremony. A committee has been established and will meet after Memorial Day.


O’toberfest – Date to be decided. Colleen DeFilippo will be the Chairperson for this fundraiser. The date is Saturday, October 14, 2023.


Good & Welfare of the Order:

Dues are being accepted for the 2022-2023 year. You can pay in person at the monthly meeting to Kathleen Diulus or mail in your check to Kathleen Diulus, 117 Summitt Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143. Dues must be paid in order to march in the parade.
