Revisiting our 2017 Pledge

Last year, we asked our members to pledge to visit the club more often in 2017 than they did in 2016, and it seems to have worked as we had our most successful year to date. We want 2018 to be even better, so we’re going to ask the same of you again in 2018. We’d ask that each of our members make the following New Year’s Resolution: “I resolve to visit the club more often in 2018 than I did in 2017”. We’ve even made it easier for you to do by opening up on Saturday nights (every week at 7 PM). We understand that everyone is busy, with work or children, doing things around the house or other volunteer activities, but if you can make it, we’d like to see all of our members (even out-of-town members) at least once in 2018.

Secret Santa & 2017 Kid’s Christmas Party

A.O.H. Division 23 would like to thank all of our members who generously donated to our Secret Santa Fund. We would also like to thank all those (including members and their family members) who gave their time to help with the Kid’s Christmas Party. From buying and passing out gifts, to working the door, helping keep the kids occupied while they waited for their name to be called, to bartending the event, the Christmas Party would not be possible without our many volunteers.

Thank You to Everyone Who Helps Out at the Club

A.O.H. Division 23 would like to thank everyone who volunteers their time to help out at the club, whether you are a bingo caller, ticket seller, turkey shoot judge, part-time Sunday chef, you work a door at the parade, you help clean-up after a party or during the week, you take time to perform various maintenance or repair tasks around the club, etc. The list is too long to name everyone & every task, but you know who you are and your fellow Hibernians know who you are, and we appreciate everything you do. The club wouldn’t be here without the efforts of these volunteers, so when you see one, please thank them.

2018 Membership Dues
Dues for 2018 will remain at $25 per member. Checks can be mailed to the club or dropped off when the bar is open. Checks should be made payable to “A.O.H. Division 23”. Members whose dues are not paid by March 31, 2018 are considered delinquent.

A.O.H. Division 23 Jackets

Our Division will be ordering new jackets (one is on display at the club if you want to stop by and take a look), that will be here in time for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Cost of a jacket is $60, and they are available in Men’s sizes S-4XL. Your initials can be embroidered on the cuff of the jacket if you’d like. An order form is attached on the last page of the newsletter. All orders (and payments) are due at the club by Friday, February 23, in order for the jacket to be delivered by Parade Day.

he Roaming Social Club will be visiting our club from 6-9 PM. This event will feature Irish music from Jimmy Lamb, food, and of course, beverages of your choosing. This is a fairly high profile event for us, so we strongly encourage all of our members to come out for this event to welcome the Roaming Social Club to Division 23, and if you have them, please come prepared with old photos or stories about the club, and its members past & present.

A.O.H. Division 23 will hold its monthly member’s meeting at 2:30 PM on the last Sunday of each month, unless otherwise noted.

3/3/2018     Save the Date

We are kicking around the idea of a possible “Kickoff the St. Patrick’s Day Season” party at the club on March 3, 2018. This year, with St. Patrick’s Day being the same day as the Parade, we’re losing the celebration of the holiday itself, which is generally one of our member’s favorite celebration days of the year. Given that, we’re considering having a “Kickoff” celebration that is (more or less) members only, to make up for it. Look for more information to be distributed on this possible event in the coming weeks.

3/9/2018     St. Patrick’s Day Parade Button Party

A date hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the annual Button Party to support the parade will likely be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Mitchell’s Pub, 3rd & Ross Street, Downtown, from 5:00- 7:00 PM. A limited number of buttons will be available for purchase at the club.

More information about this event will be distributed at the club and via email as it becomes available.

3/10/2018    5th Annual Shamrock Shake

St. Raphael’s Elementary School is hosting an Irish-themed fundraiser (“Shamrock Shake”) at 5:00 PM. The event, which was founded by our late Financial Secretary Ben Kane, features traditional Irish food, games & entertainment. Beverages will also be available. All proceeds benefit the school. Please come out and have a good time, while supporting a good cause and a school that many of our future members attend.

More information about this event will be distributed at the club and via email as it becomes available.

3/11/2018    Allegheny County Communion Breakfast

A.O.H. Division 9 will hold its annual Mass with Bishop Zubik & Communion Breakfast at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Seminary. Cost is $30 per person & $250 per table. More details will be available at the club, and will be distributed via email.

3/13/2018     A.O.H. / L.A.O.H. Division 23 Memorial Mass

The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Memorial Mass is tentatively scheduled for March 13, 2018 at St. Raphael’s Church in Morningside. Members and their families are encouraged to attend this mass that honors our deceased members & loved ones. A social will follow at the club. Desserts are welcomed.

More information about this event will be distributed at the club and via email as it becomes available.

3/17/2018    St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Pittsburgh’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin at 10:00 AM. All marchers should be in formation by 9:45 AM. We will once again be lining up on Liberty Avenue in the Strip District. Proper dress (no jeans or tennis shoes) is required for all those marching in the parade with A.O.H. Division 23. Please do not consume alcohol prior to marching, there’s plenty of time for that after the parade.

3/17/2018    St. Patrick’s Day Parade Celebration

The club will once again be open on the day of the parade, from Noon-10 PM. Members, their families and friends are invited to celebrate with us. There will be a $3 cover charge for all adults.

5/5/2018    Annual Kentucky Derby Party

We encourage everyone to don their best (or preferably, most outrageous) hats and join us at the club for our Annual Kentucky Derby Party. Doors will open at 4:00 PM, the Kentucky Derby starts at approximately 6:30 PM. Following the race, we’ll have our own “Irish Derby” night. There will also be a “Hat Contest”, so we encourage everyone that wants to participate, to wear their fanciest/craziest/whatever hat. We hope you and your friends will join us at the club for what will surely be a fun-filled event.

5/20/2018     Member’s Meeting
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, our May Meeting will be held on
5/20/2018 at 2:30 PM, rather than the last Sunday of the month.
